Mr Redhatt is a persona created by London-based singer/song-writer Brett Howell. "I developed the character while on holiday in Brisbane, Australia back in 2018. My sister-in-law found the red hat in a box full of random costume items. I took it back to London and it inspired me to take on a quirky character and write more whimsical, humorous songs. I met singer/songwriter Patti Paige on the open mic circuit and we instantly bonded. During winter we both had no money and decided to go busking in Herne Hill and Brixton. It was freezing cold! However, we made enough money for beer and cigarettes (The song 'Aliens & Breadcrumbs' references the experience). By the end of the year I was working as a bartender in Clapham Common, South London and hosted a weekly open mic night under the guise. The weekly open mic nights grew with popularity and soon I was hosting bands with various support artists. I met various talented musicians and pooled them together to feature on my album 'The Fourth Level'. I could not of imagined a hat would set off a series of events - like a chain reaction". Key influences include The Crash Test Dummies, Marcy Playground and Frank Zappa. Performing as a live act (which Brett calls 'Mr Redhatt & The Awful Strawberries') in South London at other open mic nights such as The Magic Garden in Battersea, The Bread & Roses in Clapham and The Rebel Inn in Streatham, the line-up included Patti Paige, John Lion, Adam Smith and Tobias Lever. The album features the songs 'Wizards & Lizards', 'I Love Cats' and 'Aliens & Breadcrumbs'.
